G'day guys,
98 fxd. New battery, new spark plugs, new spark wires, new fuel. Just serviced, won't fire? It chugs and tries to fire...no dice. Driving me batshit. Any help appreciated.
Hi mate,
It was running rough before the service, but it was running. With the service I got a new S&S e carb installed and VH pipes....mechanic is a ****. Told me I wasn't used to starting with new carb, then couldn't fit me in for 2 weeks, then rang up sick on the day. It's been a huge hassle getting a trailer etc , so I told him to nick off. Driving me batty.

Hi mate,
Plugs have spark, will check the air cleaner in the morn. Not sure what my plugs are gapped at.
No idea of petcock?the whole bike is standard except pipes and carb.

We recently had another forum member who had the same problem you are having.
The problem turned out to be the vacuum operated petcock (which is stock).
Next time you try to start it pull the air cleaner off and shoot some ether into the carb and see if it starts.
Petrol will probably do, but take care! If it fires on a squirt of gas, you know it isn't getting fuel from the carb. Next step is to junk the gas tap and get a new one. Non-vacuum ones are available and more suitable.
