Just get the TIG welder out. Once welded that's it.

Thanks for that info. Might be the best long term answer. Can it be welded in situ.? after a good clean.
Dont feel like stripping cases etc down to get into it. Bungo

Better to do the welding on the bench. The heat from welding can do damage to seals and electronics etc (not good). Shouldn't be too much trouble to take out. Takes me about 10-15 minutes to drop it out. The foot board is the most awkward part.

So far the blue loctite is working fine. I have a 3,000 mile trip coming up later this month, that will really be an excellent rattle test. I'll keep you posted.

Hi,Sorry, dont understand. Outer & Inner casings have to be removed to get into REAR SHIFTER unless you "dremel" it off. I wondered if it was at all possible to weld the Rear Sifter in situ. Bungo.

Loctite 35 is designed to take up spaces in applications such as this. If I had a problem with my heel shifter coming loose, I would try that.

I had a problem with the other end coming loose. The inside the primary side. Eventually, I replaced the bushings that go in the inner primary with a sleeve of Delron and I have not had a problem since.

Hi Doc,Many thanks for reply. My bike is a 91 Ultra and it is the Rear Shifter Lever on the Splined Shaft, which is coming loose. I have tightened it
frequently with no effect. It just rattles "loose" again. Bungo

Hi Bungo, a couple of suggestions. The shifter shaft is available as a replacement part, which will give you a fresh spline on which to clamp. I'm not sure about the rear gear lever, but you may be able to get either a new one or another secondhand one, to see if simply replacing those parts does the trick. Should be much cheaper than the aftermarket one you mentioned. The levers on my bike have never given me problems, although I don't use the rear lever, except as a heel stop! It is worn and polished on the front, from my boot.
