Default Considering a "new" evo

I have been kicking around the idea of buying a second bike. I currently ride a 2013 FLHX set up for two up long distance rides. It is also my daily computing bike. I traded in a super glide to get it. While I love the touring bike I do regret giving up the dyna. I'm considering an FXR as a "fun" second bike. Mostly solo < 100 mile trips. I've been eyeing this bike http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/1...-Fxr-109070103. It's local and very clean for the age and miles. However he is firm on the price which seams high to me. Is this a fair deal and would a 6'2'' 200 lbs man be happy with this size bike? Other options welcome.

Default nice

I don't know the FXR market, so I can't comment with any authority on the price. However, based on the ad the bike sure looks nice. The forward controls are the best option for adding additional leg room. It appears well maintained, newer remaned engine and trans...pretty cool. I would like to own a FXR someday.

He says OBO but is firm on price? I think he is a bit over and is trying to get back some of the money on the add-ons. 6K is probably a closer price IMO.

That being said I guess I would have a couple of serious questions for the seller.

82K on frame,,,fine, it wasn't a trailer queen. What maintenance has been done to things like neck and swingarm bushings, handlebar bushing, motor mounts and such...critical stress areas.

18K on rebuilt motor which means that it was done at around 64K. That is low end miles on an Evo. Question is why?

26K on rebuilt tranny which means it was done at around 56K. Again that is low end miles for an EVO and the question is why so soon.

What does the seller mean when he states the engine and tranny were rebuilt at X miles. Rebuilt as in motor taken apart and cases splt; rebuilt as in top end and cam; rebuilt as in something caused the oil pump to quit functioning, or I burned a valve and my motor started smoking and belching? Rebuilt tranny as in I lost a gear, tranny locked up and damn near blew the box or just a simple gear or seal change because some seal would not stop leaking.

I have to say that I did not touch the top end of my 84 FLH until she reached 69K. Even then it was just 10 over pistions, new cam and cam bearing; everything else was still good to go. Same with my tranny, only need a couple of parts to the cow pie lid because shifting was really sloppy. Lower end of the tranny was in excellent shape and only changed out seals. Evo should last as long as a Shovel and then a great deal longer. So for me the work on the Evo could be a "red flag".

Does the seller have receipts for work done. If he does not, the purported "work" does not exist.

Does the seller have receipts for maintenance done to the bike, especially regualy scheduled factory designated maintenance.

Nice looking ride although I am not digging the wheels but I tend to be a bit more traditional in style and acessories.

Keep us posed about what you decide to do.

I don't know your market geographically, but if she were in Texas that would be a fair price for her. Assuming she looks as nice as the pics. I'd try for 6k and probably pay whatever it took over that.

You "might?".......Tina would get PISSED!

I had a chance to buy an 84 FXRS for $3500............No idea of the mileage since the speedo had

been changed.

I'd pay $6500 or so for such a good condition FXR - they are awesome and rare nowdays.
If I can ever afford a 3rd bike insurance, and FXR's would still be priced reasonably, I'll get one for 6 - 7 k
