Default Drilling AC backing plate question?

I need some info on what size bit where to drill out the backside of the air cleaner assembly to get better flow to the carb. So far I've got K&N filter, Andrews EV-27 cam, SE pipes and carb mods done. Just need to get the backing plate drilled out, it's a '98 FXDS.

I would think that you could remove as much as possible that is outside the diameter of the filter element. You can't have too much air, but you need some meat for structural integrity.

Why not just get the stage 1 backing plate and be done with it as long as you have the filter?

I am on a budget, a tight budget. So far I have about $50.00 into this project (filter, O-rings and gaskets). I suppose I could go down to the dealer and see if they have an example on hand.

Thanks for the reply, now I am wondering how much is too much.... Hmmm...
