I'm looking to route the crankcase vents outside the airbox and discovered I can't do it with the stock backing plate. So... I'm rounding up parts to mount a SE Stage 1 air cleaner, obviously I have the cover I just need the 'guts' so to speak. I can do it cheaper than just buying the kit from HD.
Question I have is, is there any real differences between the 29048-04 and the 29048-07 backing plate? I've read that at first there were problems with the plate wanting to warp, I'm assuming that is the 29048-04, was it just isolated cases or was it a major problem? Is the 29048-07 the 'upgraded' part to eliminate this problem?
Also have read that there were problems with pin holes developing in the original #29044-04 filter element. Apparently the newer #29044-04B element eliminated this problem? Opinions on the SE air filter element, is it comparable to the K&N as far as air flow?
The 29048-07 backing plate didn't fix that warping problem ,but it's not a big deal. I've used one and it sealed ok. You can use a K&N 0900 air filter with that intake. I have a used one I would sell. PM me if you're interested.

Well, I guess I'll see what I end up with. From the pictures the backing plate doesn't appear to be warped at all, and all the parts are there even the cover which I don't need. Thanks for the offer, I've already bought a new SE air filter element. I've only got $70 in this mod so far, only thing left to get is the catch can.

Curious... the stock filter element has extensions on the back that fit up against the breather bolts/o-rings doesn't it?

Oh, you mean the plastic "pipes" where the breather bolts plug into in order to return the dirty air and oil back in? Sorry, I forgot, if that's what you are referring to, yes you saw them off with a small hand saw. That exposes the breather bolts for you to plug in your 2 hoses to the external world.
If you got your external breather kit from DK Customs, they explain it in their instructions.
