I think i did that. I'll have to consult a map to be sure. I took 421 out of Tennessee, maybe it was Kentucky, and headed north...at some point...I can't remember when. Hell, I live on 421 in Indiana. We have a brand new bridge (421) that crosses the Ohio river under construction as I write!

Not hot. We had 50s in the mornings and high 70s daytime. Definitely cooler at altitude than the valleys. WE kept our jackets on til Lexington on the return leg.My wife has MS so it was prefect. We kept up with the weather map on our phones and it is still cooler there than here in Ohio. Go figure, the dogwoods are still in bloom in the mountains and long done here.
Warning:Shameless plug.
The Big Lynn Motel near Marion NC right on the parkway was great.
$122 with dinner and breakfast included.Built in the 30s but updated. The dinner bell gets rang at 6;30 and the breakfast bell at 7:30.They even had clean rags set out to wipe the dew off the bikes in the morning. We are staying there again.Momma bear and 2 cubs greeted us as we pulled out in the morning. My wife thiught momma was going to swipe her with a paw as we rode by the dumpster she had staked out. http://www.biglynnlodge.com/
The wife and I just finished 4 days,1200 mile to VA,KY,TN and NC. We toured mostly secondary roads and had a blast.Did about 100 miles on the BRP,rode The Snake and another road that was almost as good.
I can tell you this:the EVO did not like the damp air at 6K ft on Mt.Mitchell.
We are already planning for a 10 day ride next year in the same area.
You don't really have to go on vacation for a Quicky, Shoemaker!
