I have a 1996 Road King with almost 70,000 miles on it. The top end and cam was redone last year by a local guy. I installed a new s&s carb at the end of last year as well. I just went thru having to replace the ignition system because the cam sensor went so I installed a dynatek 2000i single fire ignition. The bike smokes when I am at stop lights and seems to go away or maybe just cant see it as I was at speed. It is leaving black soot at the tail pipe. Is this cause of a rich condition or something else.
Oh a couple of things I forgot. The new top end has about 6000 miles on it and when I was having problems with the ignition the local checked my compression to check his work and the compression was fine.
Yes, black smoke is unburnt fuel so it is rich. I'm not famiiar with S&S carbs but hopefully someone will come along and get that idle adjustment changed to the leaner side
