Agree 100%. I'm pretty sure the primary oil level changed in that year, from the bottom of the inspection window, to the bottom of the clutch basket. If your bike is before the change, then the oil being high on your clutch basket is not unreasonable. Get the book, then you'll have accurate information.

Doesn't matter. It is an oil reservoir with no way in or out normally. If there is more oil than there should be that will suggest a leaking crankshaft oil seal, however don't panic!
