Airflitration!
More airflow isn't always a good thing. If you don't have the mods to support it, specifically cubic inches, you can easily reach a point of diminishing returns. Worse yet it can actually hurt your performance. For maximum performance you want a balanced system, not just more airflow.
well, It's a 1340 Evo motor, with 2 into 2 big radius V&H pipes and a stage 1 jet kit. Runs great now with no backfiring or deceleration pops. Ultimately I cringe when going through a dust cloud, or i get hit with the slightest bit of rain because I know that the hyper charger is just sucking it all in. So i figured ditch it because well, everyone says they suck and hinder performance.
That makes sense. I don't think you need to flow more air through your intake. With the mods you have outlined, I think your current setup will already flow more air than you will use, as will the RSD. I don't think the RSD will hurt you performance wise, but I don't think you will see a gain out of it either. Not a real gain like on a dyno but there are people here with much more knowledge than I and they may have a different opinion.
If you want to change for looks or dependability in the rain, that's a different story and as I stated before, I don't think the RSD will offer much improvement in that area (the rain) either, in fact I think it might be worse. My first hand knowledge is a little limited on this subject, however, as I have always run the S&S teardrop. But I can tell you it works really well, with classic looks and it will easily flow a stage 1+. I don't think I will ever change. It's all in what you want.

rgr that....
well at least in the situation of rain i can put an outer rain sock on the RSD and it will diffuse most of the water.
I can't do that with the Hyper-charger with out suffocating it.
fyi, i try to avoid rain at all costs... im not an avid "rain rider" but in the case of getting caught in the rain, it's nice to have the option of a rain sock on the RSD.
Agreed, I don't like riding in the rain much either and try to avoid it if I can. Keep in mind, if you go to the RSD, I think it will flow more than the H-C you are using, so you may need to jet up to keep from running too lean.
The bottom line is DO YOU LIKE THE HYPER CHARGER? To hell with anyone else, there's an awful lot of monkey-see-monkey-do in this culture anymore. If you like the way the H-C looks, keep it and save the money for other mods to your bike. Make it yours, not everybodyelse's! As to the rain, try turning the H-C facing down, there should be enough up-draft to still supply the air you need but much better in the rain...just a thought.

My last bike had a hypercharger and the guy is still running it, it did and does run great. No issues with the rain at all and I'm not afraid to ride in it. You have a stock motor that is at stage one, absolutely no need for a 400 dollar aircleaner, will not increase anything you can feel except that you will go faster cause you are carrying a lighter wallet.
Worried about the rain, get an Arlin Ness Stage 1 big sucker for 100-so bucks and a Harley Nostalgic 8" round aircleaner cover for 50, will do what you want and look great doing it..

I think half the problem is I really like the look of the turbine RSD air cleaner, and I don't like the look of any of the other ones (A.N big suckers, joker, ect) . lol.... I know "function over form" but in this case I don't mind ponying up an extra couple hundred to get what I want in looks and performance. And being that I already have a K&N highflow filter in the hyper-charger I can't imagine having to change any of my carb settings either.... However, I do know that the RSD is a more exposed airfilter and will most certainly flow more air, but will it really flow THAT much air to require going up a jet size? I doubt it.... maybe a slight fuel mixture screw adjustment, (I do feel like it could be leaned out a little anyway). I don't know maybe I just bought an expensive aircleaner face lift. lol..... either way, the retail on it was $429. I got it at about 10% over dealer cost which was about $350, so wasn't too bad of deal...
I should have it tomorrow, and will do the switch over and see what happens...
I do like the hyper-charger and haven't had any problems with it other then the occasional cough or the collecting of a little oil, but the more I find that its just a gimmicky thing that does nothing but collect crap and moisture the less I want it on there... I'm sure y'all can respect that!

I spent $800 on a set of pipes that will basically not work as good but look great! IMO
As for your hyper charger I don't think anyone is gonna disrespect anything you want to do to your bike. The key here is that it is your bike not anyone else's.
You got the pockets we can help you empty them!!!!
Yeah, man, by all means, we love to help people spend their money
. Hell, I don't have any of my own to spend so I HAVE to live through you, hehe. I thought you really wanted the attributes of one over the other for your bike.
In my book, there is no better justification than the simple fact, you like the way it looks! Don't forget, post us a picture when you get it on.

I'm anticipating it coming in tomorrow and provided everything goes smoothly I should complete the install tomorrow night and post up some pics.
Thanks for helping me spend some moneys...
.
judging by what I am anticipating, this will be an expensive air cleaner face lift, but a bad *** looking one at that.... haha... and maybe..... Juuuuuust maaaaybe, I may get a small gain in something... may it be performance, sound, or just cool factor.

Kinda like sayin, "there is to much air in this room to breath"?
