Could be, MW. The adjustable port thingie came out after I bought my Super E's, but the non-adjustable hole is there on mine to be clogged up with gunk.

MW, thanks for the response, man. Don't ever feel like your input isn't appreciated, not with me! I can always learn. Any way, funny you should bring this up. I went through the carb about 1000 miles ago, when I began to have these problems. I shot cleaner through all the passages, at first some of the ports didn't want to flow, but after a few blasts, they seemed to be working. I was thinking today while I was working on the carb, maybe I need to pull the whole carb and throw it in the bucket overnight. Let it soak real good and see what happens. If the Gremiln comes back, that's what I'm gonna do! So, here's where I'm at right now

Taking the good Dr's advise, I'm creating a new starting point. I re-blasted both plugs and rolled both jets back one size, intermediate from .031 to .295 and main from .70 to .68. I think that's a little too small on both ends but my reasoning for doing it was based solely on the looks of the plugs, after only 100-150 mi they shouldn't have been anywhere near that black, so I went to leaner settings. I tested for intake leaks and didn't find any. Air screw is @ 1-1/2 now and I kicked up the idle a little.

She seems to start right up and idle fine, I haven't ridden her yet. So, now lets put some miles on her and see what happens....

FWIW I tried all kinds of jets in mine (mainly seeing if I could get better gas mileage) and ended up right back where I started (.0295 and .072).

I tried the 68 but it starved the bike at WOT.

That's interesting, I fully expect to have to go up but .295 on your slow speed? Hmm... Btw, what kind of milage are you getting?

FWIW, I'm running a 265 intermediate and a 64 main. It came from S&S with a 295 and a 72, and was pig rich everywhere. I fouled a plug out in about a quarter mile.

Also, only change one thing at a time and see how it does. That is, change the intermediate or the main, but not both.

Will do Doc! One thing at a time, I really want to get this worked out. Thanks for sharing your jet sizes, that's good to know. I would have thought that 265 and 64 would be too small for a big twin. Even before the gremlins started to show themselves, I was never really happy with the MPG's, she sure was a thirsty girl and yes I would foul out plugs quicker than any other bike I ever had. Thanks for everyone's help, I'm going to put some miles on her and see how she reacts. I'll let you know what happens.

If your accel pump is miss adjusted you could be flooding the bike out and then exploding the gas out the tailpipe.

You can adjust the idle perfectly fine with the accel pump screw turned all the way in (disabled). The choke will give you enough gas to start it. Only after it idles perfectly do you start backing out the accel pump screw.

Black smoke out the pipes when cracking the throttle is the first sign the accel screw is out too far. Then stumbling during accel will happen as well.

Those jets are only good for S&S carbs made before 2004.
They did a design change in 2004.

The way you can tell which one you have (if you don't already know) is look at the breather jet. They made it removable after 2004. They look just like a main jet just smaller number.

Your talking about the reed valve, right? My S&S doesn't have that .

I don't really know what a reed valve is.
Your S&S either has a hole in the casting or a removable jet.

You have to pull off the bowl and look up in the carb from the bottom.
The hole or jet will be on the rear outside and kinda hard to see.

This hole or jet is in the body of the carb not the bowl.
