Just finished changing the oil. Fired the bike up and BAAAM flames out the pipes and won't idle. I am constantly having to adjust the jetting on this thing.
Clean out the tank, put a new fuel line on it and add an external fuel filter.
The tank is clean, I put all new lines on the tanks already. The old ones were deteriorating inside and bits of rubber were choking out the jets. I was thinking of adding an inline filter. The last two times I had the bowl open to check, the fuel was completely clean with no debris in the jets.
Well, I'd pull the bowl and check the jets again. All 3, including the idle mixture. You can get a nice small all-metal inline fuel filter at any auto parts store for a few bucks. I don't have the part number handy. Also, if your tank has a fuel line at the front between the bottom parts, don't forget to change that one.
I'm running a Super E so I only have two jets and an air screw and yes, all the fuel and vent lines have been replaced. But I'm curious, if I'm shooting flames out the pipes, then doesn't that indicate a rich condition? I mean, the only way for flames to ignite in the pipes is for fuel to get past the chambers, yes?
Well, yeah, kinda. I mean, unburnt gas got out there certainly. A gummed up carb can cause that, even if it is plugged up too lean. It can be too lean to ignite properly in the combustion chamber, pool out in the exhaust and go pop. Timing is OK, right? What ignition system are you using? Plugs not fouled out?
Anyway, clean it out again, add a filter and see how it goes. You might be able to get away with just dropping the bowl, cleaning the intermediate and main jet and pulling the idle mixture screw out and blowing down the hole. That is, without pulling the carb.
Hmm, I hadn't thought of that, maybe. My last compression check was 1000 miles ago. She hit 175lbs even on both sides with no leak. Maybe I'll check it again; but, when she's hitting proper, she runs like a raped ape! So, I wouldn't think it's a stuck valve but it only takes a few minuets to check, right?

Thanks, Doc. I'm definitely going to get in there and clean it out. To answer your question, I haven't checked the plugs yet but I fully expect them to be fouled. That's a common problem too.
My biggest issue is getting the jet right. My intermediate is .031 at idle shes too rich, but at 35 mph or less she seems obviously starved for fuel, running very erratic. I have to try to find a good balance between what will idle and what will run @ low speeds. Timing should be OK, has electronic ignition.

having an electronic ignition and timing being "okay" are 2 VERY different things. I recently had to completely redo my setup (which was also electronic) because it was running WAY too far advanced, way too fast.
jetting and timing arent things that change easily...especially not overnight. something else is causing your issues. whether or not the jetting/timing is correct is another matter all together. I dont know enough about S&S carbs to help ya there (i use a mikuni)
