Changed my mind on something
bacon fixes everything......
Actually, as long as you have a reference you can generally get where you are going, even on twisty roads...I didn't mean to be a smart a$$ earlier, practically my entire family are pilots and this is just something we do and pass on...The real trouble is dead end roads and things like that.

I have a Magellan for the bike as it is "water proof???" It used to be the primary for my car, but I upgraded to a Garmin as it has more features that I was looking for. What we've done time and time again is leave early in the AM and just ride. Around two or three in the afternoon we take it out, hook it on the handle bar mount and punch in "home" and viola we are on our merry way. It is also usefull when you are on a trip a long ways away from home and need some gas or fuel. We also loaded a map that my wife found that had all (supposedly) the Harley Dealers on it.
We've also used it like this, we were going to Newport,RI from Albany,NY which is a three hour trip. Instead we headed northeast until we were near the coast above Boston. Then we punched in Newport along with No higways,No toll roads. What we ended up wit was an eight hour ride over roads I never new existed. A very pleasent and beautiful ride indeed. So in closing, be sure you can read a map, but don't be afraid to embrace technology!!!

All I know is that I'm laughing right now. "No map for me man. I'm a real biker. Just ride out west through the desert and let the road take me where it takes me."
I heard the Moco has GPS units on sale for $3500 with a low APR for qualified buyers or you could just got to best buy and get the same thing without a HD logo for $120 and call it good. ANYTHING is going to be better than your lackluster map reading skills in the dark.
I'll check with the Real Biker Chapter in my area and see if you still fit in with a GPS.
Good luck buddy, thanks for the Saturday afternoon laugh.

You missed the quotation marks..........
I'll have to clarify, sorry fellas.
That was 100% supposed to be just for Mark and he would have known exactly what I meant. As he was planning a trip a while back I asked him about an iPhone GPS and he told me he was a real biker and didn't need anything like that. Truly it was all sarcasm hoping that he'd be the first one to reply and laugh about it.
MJ knows I'm ribbing him. Far as I can tell if you're riding a bike, you're a real enough biker for me. The ONLY exception to that general rule is if you ride a Yamaharley and then name it after a cloud. Aside from that, GPS all the way. I've got mine with me everywhere I go!
Closed circuit to MJ, email me directly. I have a garmin that I don't use. I truly have NO need for it. I'll send it to ya and you can try it out. Need to install a 12V charger on the bike though.
