Need some help here
Everyone has a different situation but if you really need to play those games then something else is wrong. If you do your part in paying the bills and the money for the bike does not hurt the family then there is no reason she should object.

Dr Hess can fi all the bikes on this forum, Dr Bedor can sell new bikes to uninterested wives. First of all, what color are we talking about? Why is there no pictures of this alleged bike? Someone brought up the great point, forgiveness vs permission. In a former life I also went with the "never tell the truth til you give a lie half a chance".
I think you may be too far in though, for outside help. Had you asked us before you mentioned it to your wife, there is a much different strategy (see ideas above), but since you've already tried begging your next step is likely groveling. It would also be good to know if she's got a good sense of humor. For instance, go buy the bike and when she sees it in the garage, have a bow on it "To Mark, From your loving wife" and then you give her a big hug and tell her that you knew she'd come around!
The other is to try the "I'll never get another Christmas, birthday, father's day present again if I can get this bike" Even if you're serious about this we all know it never sticks....by 2015 you will be lavished with gifts of gold, frankensence and murr.
The desperation angle: I may never get another opportunity like this again
The backup angle: The 95 is a FLSTN, it's a limited production, I'd really like to keep this one in tact and miles off it...It will be a collector's item and worth tens of thousands of dollars.
The reason angle: Ask her WHY you can't get it. I assume you can afford it. Whats the reason for the no? If it's because you already have one, the possibilities are endless for a rebuttal...purses, shoes, clothes, # of children (careful with that one) =) ,
Scratch her back angle: What does she want? Strike a deal. If you get the bike, she can get that new vacuum she's been eyeing up for the last couple years!
Explain need vs want. No you don't need it but you want it. After all the years of self-sacrifice for the family it's obviously your time to own two bikes. Flex some of that head-of-household selfishness or play the pity card and maybe she'll bite.
If she still says no, threaten to withhold sex. Obviously this is a no-win situation for many reasons. 1. You will not be getting laid. 2. You will discover that your services are no longer needed anyway 3. You still won't have the bike.
Let me know which one of these worked when you post pics of your new bike. You're welcome.

Bedor, you crack me up. You wanna laugh too...come live on my planet. Bike is cold black with gold trim, fat whites with raised letters tires. Can't flush her out of my mind. On a seroius note, what would a near mint 95 Nostalgia be worth in 10 years or so? I've already put 8k on her this summer and the odometer is nearing 18k. Probably pushed it past the point of it ever being considered a rare find?? Will any of these evos ever appreciate in value? But if it takes 50 years like some of the older HDs, what does it matter to me? I bought it to ride it, but the thought has crossed my mind a few times as far as looking at it as an investment. Guess I'm trying to sell your "backup angle" to myself cb. I tend to overexaggerate on here, but I really can deal with the bit of fallout from buying another ride....but it is fun to get some of the forum members worked up from time to time!
I'm glad I finally got a topic about something I knew something about! As far as what would the flstn be worth in 10 years, my answer is 'whatever someone is willing to pay for it". The general public doesn't know the difference between our era Nostalgia and a standard or classic so it won't ever have widespread value. To someone who is on a quest for that particular bike, my guess is that they'd be looking for one that is as close to stock as they could get it and POSSILY be willing to pay a premium for it. My personal opinion is we should both ride our Nosty's hard plan on never selling. We know there's a "N" at the end of the model and that's probably all that matters.
Good to see you're still in circulation Mark, hope all the rest is good too.

Mark, here's a Craigslist ad from today here in Minneapolis. Here's your 95 FLSTN being listed as a "collector?"

Ride them hard, yes, I will stick with that. Took another road trip with the wife recently....kept bumping her up slowly until we were cruising 80 mph for about two hours. Never was one for running quite that fast, especially two-up. But, man, so smooth and the old evo just humming along with no strain at all....beautiful. And no complaints at all from the wife to slow down either???
