Well, I have finally decided to fix the cylinder base leak. Didn't plan on it...but it went like this....

Went to change the rear tire out and of course you have to remove the mufflers. Well, Part of the exhaust system developed a crack in it. The right muffler did not budge loose and the crack...two things I did not expect. Anyways, I let a machine shop deal with the exhaust....

And, I figured...what the hell....go ahead and fix the leak!!!

My recommendation... I am but one... Change out the base gasket but with the top gasket go with a .030 insterad of the stock .040. More compression for not alot of money. I had good performance results from going with the EV-27 and .030 gasket than I would have expected. JMO

If this bike was the carbureatored Electra Glide...I would definately go with the EV-27 and the .30 gasket. That would be easy and fairly inexpensive for more power. I did those recommendations on a 1996 Tour Glide about two years ago with good results. But..........

This bike is the EFI Electra Glide version and is fairly stock. Would the bike have to go back to the dealership for remapping and then does Harley even have a map for it? Right now, the Magnetti Marelli system has worked flawlessly on what it has...just don't know how it would like the change.[sm=huh.gif]

If you're gonna replace the base gaskets I'd definitely recommend: www.haydensm6.com and getting The Oil Fix.

Yea, I used those gaskets...and they do work. I have used some on another EVO awhile back. The camshaft lobes had a little wear on them...I don't think the previous changed the oil enough. And I also changed out the cam bearing to the better one without the plastic in there. The rings and jugs were fine with no wear on them. So at 50,000 miles...not bad.
