TD, I was thinking about doing the QR backrest. When you have a minute, would you please take a couple pics of the strut without bags or the backrest so I can see what it looks like...you can text them to me...then I will tap you for part numbers if I think it's gonna work out. I just want to see "what's left" if you're running a solo seat without bags on the QR studs. Thanks man. I figure this won't be too hard for you since it involves taking pictures of your bike....
I used a dremel tool and cut the 2 front tabs so they would slip on around the 2 bolts on the bottom of the drivers seat. I loosened those 2 bolts and used Locktite so they wouldn't back out anymore. Have not had any problems. To remove it, just back out the fastener on the back of the passenger seat, and slide the seat back. To attach, slide the tabs on, then tighten the rear bolt on passenger seat.

Excellent idea! Did you put some large washers or something on the bolts to catch the "tongue" of the passenger seat?

Sure thing. WAIT! Are you saying I like taking pictures of the lovely Miss Scarlett?
Btw, I don't think it's going to look "too" bad........
JeffT1185's solution is very similar to the way Mustang seats do it. Mustang adds large, grooved "washers" on the front seat bolts for the rear seat tangs to slip into.
CPBedor, they make little buttons in black or chrome that slip over the detachable mounting posts on the struts. Not sure if they look a whole lot better.
