I'd like to seek some advices from experienced EVO riders again (Well, it should not be an issue specific to EVO models though).
I've now been riding this '95 FXSTSB for almost three years now, and I only have minor customization to it after I got it with factory stock conditions with only 11K miles on it. I've changed the pipes to Screamin' Eagle turn-out, air cleaner to S&S teardrop, CV carb with slow jet changed from 42 to 48, and that's about it.
The issue I've seen is that after a start-up (pull out choke and start button, after 30sec or so idling, push it a half way in, then push it all the way in after riding 2-3 miles), and riding for about 1-2 hours, then stop at some parking lot for a quick break. After 5-10min break, I try to restart just by pushing the starter button (no choke or open throttle), but it doesn't start. Even if it starts the engine, it lasts only a second (the idling sounds so slow and powerless then stops). I try a few times, sometimes with pushing the starter with holding the throttle open, then it fires up again. Once it starts, no more problems. It seems like happens when I stop and restart in short interval of time. Spark plugs look okay (maybe a little lean). Do you have any advice to this? I don't recall this happened before I changed the pipes etc., so some setup that I missed?
let me see some pix. but to be honest, youre gonna have to junk it... I'll take her off yer hands though as the local scrappers will try to rob you.
hahaha
I don't know much about CV carbs but if this started after the pipe change I would go back through setting the fuel/air mixture screw.
Sounds like you already took care of the jetting.
Hi texashillcountry, Thanks for the reply. So would that happen if the mixture was too lean you think? I readjusted the mix, and it looks "okay" range as far as I can tell from the spark plugs. At least it wouldn't cause any ignition problems... I thought. Maybe wrong. I will redo it again. Thanks for the comments.
You are flowing a more air in and more air out which means the if the mixture is left alone, then you will run lean. It sounds like you adjusted for it. Since everything is fine with the choke pulled and it is mostly just when you are starting it, it sounds like it is close to be being adjusted right, but you are still a tad too lean.
Once you have it at running temps about 10 miles should do try resetting the idel if you have a tack around 900 to 1k no more no less , if that wont fix it try resetting the float it might be off just a tad

You need three things to run a motor.
Spark, air, and fuel and you need them in the right proportions and times.
You said your bike (you think) was running fine before the pipe swap there fore it is something you did during the swap or not adjusting for the changes you made.
I highly doubt it has anything to do with your ignition. IMO
