Bought my bike new in 1993. In 1994 the rear base gasket started leaking. It leaked for twelve years until I finally had the Hayden Oil Fix installed during an upper rebuild. Seven years later and still no leaks.

Update: cleaned it up real good and ran it and then took another good look to see where exactly the oil leak is coming from... not the base gasket after all that part is fine. Its where the pushrods are think its called the tappet lifter block. Theres a gasket there on the front cylinder thats weeping when I go for a longer ride... nothing at idle or just revving it in the garage.

what are my options? Can you apply a liquid gasket on the outside for a band aid approach to fixing.

Are the bolts on the tappet block tight? As with any leak you can just live with it and make sure you keep oil in it, or you can pull the rocker box on that jug, pull the pushrods, tubes, and tappets, and replace the gasket on the block.

Depends on how much wrenching experience you have and how much patience ya got......its easier than doing the final drive belt on an FXR but harder than changing a camshaft on any Evo.

when mine started really puking i change to JAMES GASKETS. never had a problem with them. been using the for years. get some bolt cutters, remove your upper pushrod covers slide the bottom up and cut the factory pushrods. change your gasket. should have the lifter block alignment tool. and replace the push rods with adjustable pushrods. not really hard if you take your time.

Why would you fit adjustables when you have to pull the heads and jugs to do the job anyway?...it won't save you any time.

Man,I figured all EVO base gaskets leaked, as long as she don't leave a trail you should be ok. Take a few quarters to the car wash. Killer

after installing a few sets of metal base sets we dumped all the paper ones in the garbage - and have not look back - the metal ones work on the shovel rocker boxes and if you ever own one of those you will shake your head hearing that -- johnjzjz
