And check the anti-rattle bracket in the calipers. That one drove me nuts once.
I have check most of that but good advice. ILL check some more stuff tomorrow. I would think the stethescope would have found anything internally as much as I used it today. Tommorrow I will take it to Mr Trip, he is the mechanics mechanic. By ear it sounds like the engine.? Thanks
Not long ago my left floorboard was making an awful noise that sounded like something terrible was happening. Needless to say I was very happy to discover what it really was.
Mt shift lever bangs around sometimes, it sounds like the engine is breaking up. I've been meaning to put some rubber o-rings on it to snug it up, but I just put my foot against it and the noise goes away.....I'll get to it.
The Indy that built my bike said it could not ever be piston slap because of the very close tolerances he built the engine. Said possibly lifter or need to adjust pushrods a bit tighter.?
I rode yesterday and NO noise at all with no adjustments. UGHA. Thought I would pull the primary cover to make sure the stator and all is still tight. Also change the oil and filter to possibly free up a lifter? Still shooting in the dark.?
Any time I mention something like this to any number of HD mechanics they all say the same thing.. "Louder pipes". I kid you not.
They dont want to take the time to find it, so it is ignored. I think it was a dirty lifter that cleared its self. I changed the oil and filter anyway but it has not made noise in 2 days. DAMNIFIKNOW... Motor sounds new under a stethescope and runs very strong. Whatever, it went away.

I hope it stays gone for you.
Intermittent problems are the worst.
Usually if I can't find it I just wait till it brakes then I know what to fix.

They usually do. Tomorrow it will be a different noise. Disassembly and reassembly fixes most. I'm pretty good at ignoring them now. Rattle rattle bang bang...etc.

If you will help me tare it down and put it back together I will buy all the seafoam and I am sure it will rattle with the best of them. Of coarse Traildog will have to tell us how to use the stuff correctly.
