Yesterday I started hearing a rattle like something loose between 1500-1800 rpm. It is intermitent.. I used my stetheascope all over the engine and tranny and heard nothing. Only just by ear can I hear it.? IF it's "piston slap" wouldnt it be heard all the time, instead of now and then? I hear it at deceleration lo rpm.
Piston slap has a tendancy to become active when the piston is unloaded from pressure and should stay consistant. Check all of your pipe shield clamps for being loose or broken, they can make some nasty sounds.

God I hate intermittent problems!!!!!!
I'd just go through the bike and look for something loose.

Thanks Bagger, Iv been all over that bike today. I removed heat shields and battery box and looked under ignition & fuse box and could not find anything loose top, bottom & sides. I put the stethescope on both rockerboxes, both lifter blocks, Pushrods, cam housing, primary case, tranny, heads, cylinders and got NO noise, engine sounded great. I was riding the bike with the stethescope in my ears and the other end duct taped to all these parts. The only time I herd the rattle is no stethescope. Only herd it at decelling about 1600 rpm & only now & then, not constant..?? Iv been at this all day..

Believe me Tex, I hope somebody boots my butt if its something simple which it just might be. To be honest about 2 days ago I ran the engine up to 122 mph before backing out of it but it was still pulling strong. I never held it there, just a quick zip up and eased back down. No noise at that time or on the 10 mile ride home.
