Mr Spann, I have been trying to figure out how that Ice got a woody. There is no stick or anything else there to make this happen. icecycles are round and this is flat like a knife blade. No tricks or jokes, just a freak of nature. its sticking 3.5 inches out of the water. Last night when it happened there was no rain. DAMIFIKNOW.. Yes there is leaves and pine needles in the water but they are not touching the icey?

Was water dripping from above the bowl, causing a "splash" that slowly froze and developed into that shape?

Did it freeze while laying flat, and then something caused it to rotate upward?

No on both accounts. It did not rain last night and everything was frozen at 26*.

The bowl was sitting 2 ft out past the gutters..??

Maybe some critter broke the ice and that but stuck up in the air and froze in place.....or its a sign from God.....or Dog.....

I like that, sign from God or dog.. But the Ice is not broken or fractured. Just plain strange. Actually when I saw it I thought it was a sign, being Thanksgiving .? All seriousness, I dont have a clue..

It will seal up with no sign if it was fractured....but I think its probably put there by local crooks as a sign that you are badass and have a big dog so they know not to rob you
