Bosch 3330 or Wix 51348 if I recall correctly...sorry my puter took a dump on me this am. Lost all my files, still pissed about that...
A web search will give you tons of info an car type filers that will work. Good luck, and valvolene racing conventional 20w-50 is a good oil for the evo....lots of zinc. YD
I know from experience that if you aren't drawing a vacuum on the crankcase and pulling the combustion byproducts into the engine to be burned the oil will get dirty appearing pretty quickly. If you have a "road draft" tube from the rocker boxes to the ground you have no vacuum on the crankcase so the oil will get black quickly. But you can't tell if the oil is bad from looking at it. Look at any diesel engine oil, it's black in 2 minutes but it lasts a long time.
I suggest you send off some oil for an analysis with Blackstone labs to see what you are dealing with - it's not expensive and it'll tell you if there's anything going on to be worried about. Spring for the extra $10 for a TBN analysis, which tells you how much protective additive you have back.
I personally have used analyses to extend my oil changes in my vehicles. Based on your reported mileage and the remaining additives they recommended I go longer between changes. I was recycling perfectly good oil which is wasteful.

How do "combustion byproducts" get to the rocker boxes?

Don't use car filters...end of story....some will argue that it's fine but they'd be wrong...a car motor and an H-D motor are very different technologies and require different filters.
