Default Replacing Petcock.

What's the deal with the nut having left handed threads to the petcock and right handed threads to the tank? Do I have to start out all the way on, or off the petcock when I start threading it on? I got confused so I started about half way on the reverse threads and rotated the whole assembly onto the tank till it started snugging up, then tigtened the nut tight to the tank threads while holding the valve still. It doesn't leak, but I'm not going 60mph down the highway yet either. Is that correct? I'll bet if I had a service manual I would have saved a lot of typing, huh?

Ok now that we got that out of the way what I do is screw that nut all the way down on the petcock then screw the petcock into the tank as far as I can without hitting the tank and tighten it into place with the nut.

I think the manual says to put some thread paste on the threads of the petcock but I never have and mine doesn't leak.

If yours doesn't leak I wouldn't worry about it.

That's what I ended up doing, but I thought I would ask the experts for reassurance. TD, should I put some sea-foam in it.....whoa sorry!

It does seem odd, but it also allows us to set the position of the tap to where we want it. If they just threaded the gas tap straight into the tank there is no certainty where the tap would end up!
