The damper rod on bottom of fork is probably(should be) locktited.Use a hand held impact driver with a non-Chinese allen bit.That is the hardest thing you should encounter.Follow manual.You will need proper snap ring tool also for large ring above seal.

I did mine. I picked a used set and took them to a local shop to chrome them. I R&Red myself. As said mine had a 6mm allen for the damper rod. I used a hand impact for removal. I took the chromed legs\sliders to the harley shop and they installed the top seals for me. I also put in progressive lowering springs at the same time.

i just finished mine. they were original 1995 and were in bad shape. i took the wheel and the fender off. makes it easier. 2 days and 2 six packs later its done and worth it. now waiting for ball bearing conversion kit and i'm back in the saddle
