I checked out the sticky I'll give that a try this afternoon. This is what's happening. Got on the bike yesterday. Went to the gas station. When I came out the bike tried to turn over once and didn't have enough juice. I got a jump start and headed a few miss down the road to my dad's thinking the battery just needed some road time ( much like myself). By the time I made it there the dash lights were fading and the headlights was nearly off bike was running off the battery. Any ideas guys.

Stator change is a PITA. You have to remove the primary chain at a minimum, which means remove the compensator and clutch basket. The "book" method is to also remove the inner primary, but with a 5 speed, some people have dremmel'ed off a little bit and managed to get the stator out.

Well dr Hess I did your test and looks like I'm taking the primary off soon and replacing the stator. Wish me luck. I've never done anything quite that in depth, but I'm always up for a learning experience. ( just wish it wasn't such a costly one )

Oh well. Gotta learn some time. Have the shop manual handy. There are tricks for breaking the big nuts loose, which have been discussed here many times. I use an impact gun. You can do it with a giant Crescent type wrench if you have to if you lock the primary chain with a turn buckle between the gear teeth. Of course, the proper socket makes it easier.
