I've had my '96 FXDL for nearly two years now, and while she's got her quirks, I do love the bike. Friend of mine sold me his '07 Softail a few weeks ago DIRT cheap. 15k miles, fuel injected 96 with six speed. Starts right up, no oil leaks/seepage, bad *** 200 rear tire, the works. As much as I like the idea of not screwing with an enrichener, not having a seeping oil leak, the six speed and an 11 year newer bike, know what keeps me on the Dyna and has the Softail on eBay? The motor. When you start that 96 up, sure it burbles and sounds nice, but it only SOUNDS nice. When I fire up that ol' Evo motor, you FEEL it. It ALWAYS puts a smile on my face (literally) when I first fire that baby up in the garage. I feel sorry for those guys that have no idea what I'm talking about.
I remember about a year ago going for a ride with the same guy and while we were sitting at a light he looked over at my bike (which was shaking and shimmying like a fat girl in an earthquake) and said "Why doesn't my bike do that?" "Cause it ain't an Evo!"
I have ridden a friends '99 street glide a couple of times.
He has it all tricked out. Damn thing has so much power I took off one time an my butt slid into the back seat!!!!!!!!!!!
