Default Stuck Clutch Help!!!!

I`m askin` for help here because this is the place I received most help in the past.I was helping my buddy yesterdad on his 93` sporty and got it prety well sorted out except for the clutch. The bike sat 3--4 years and the clutch wont disengage.I`m thinking the plates are dry and stuck together and needs to be ridden to get oil up and free up plates.Bike pull good, just wont disengage(release)when lever is pulled in.Thanks for any advice/help. To the best of my knowledge there are only 2 cures for that.
1) Try to break it free by riding it and shifting.
2) Simply replace the clutch plates.

Personally I would go with number 2 as it is safer and you will have new fibers and steels in the bargain.

I've had luck with getting the oil warm then letting it sit for a bit and doing again. A couple of times and things were back to normal ... Good luck.

This is a frequent complaint with new bikes. If yours was a garage queen before you got it and has low miles, that may be part of the problem. It usually gets easier after 10,000 miles. Also, if the transmission has engine oil in it, changing to a gear oil may also help. It has been a long time, but I believe Spectro 6 speed transmission lube and Red Line Shockproof 75W-140 both seemed to help in the early days. Now, with 105,000+ any good gear oil works. If you still have the heel shifter, I found that placing my foot on both levers and gently going for neutral helped to prevent the frequent "overshoot" when just using my toe or heel alone.

Take it apart! Carefully pry disk apart with a scrrw driver if they wont separate. Clean the necessary parts with brake clean, soak in oil after clean. Soak parts with the oil of your choice for a few hours, install wet. Setting upright, fill the primary so it's just touching the bottom of the clutch up to an inch. You can clean the steel plates carefully on a wire wheel.

If he hasn't gotten it figured out after 8 years, it's probably not going to happen.
