Default EVO Leak...need info

Hello all...I have a 1992 FLHS with 47k in better than average shape with no engine mods whatsoever. I put her away this past fall not dripping a bit of oil and running as tight as can be. Had a 60+ degree day this past Saturday so I fired her up to get the juices flowing. She started with little effort so I let her idle for a little bit to get her warm. Suddenly I had a puddle of oil coming from under the motor coming directly out of the cone shaped filter under the rear of the motor (see pics). I'm no Harley mechanic...can someone enlighten me on what this is and why it would pour out oil now. Is this an easy fix or do I have bigger problems? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Normal for sitting for a few months. Take her for a long hot ride!

Ride it like you stole it, and let us know if it still leaks.

My 93 is my bitch. I no longer treat her with mink gloves. She gets beat like the bitch she is...

I agree with the above. Oil probably slipped by your control valve in the pump (a ball bearing and spring setup) over the winter into the case. As a member above mentioned, a piece of dirt/crap/whatever can hold that ball slightly off of it's seal. When you fired her up, the oil in the case blew out the breather...called sumping or 'wet sumping'. Riding her will blow the oil out of the case. If she KEEPS doing it over the riding months you'll have to address the problem, but I'll bet that's not the case. A quick search here on sumping should give you plenty of info.

By the way, I would either change that filter out for a new one or remove it altogether. Once they get saturated with oil they do nothing but collect dirt, grime, and tend to clog up - hurting the motor's ability to do what it needs to do...breathe.

All Evo's puke, this is normal. If you didn't have the breather underneath it would be coming out of your aircleaner and dripping all over your cam cone.
