Not OP's problem but I had a yellowjacket in my crossover line and kept acting like it was running out of gas.

Maybe I'm just looking for a reason to complain.
The pressure on mine builds up too. I think that is normal. Here's a couple of pics of my cap. I took a small drill bit and pressed it against the relief valve. It seems to be working and took very little effort to unseat it. I then took a piece of tubing that was large enough to cover the hole and pressed it against the cap. I then blew in the tubing. It took quite a bit of force to get the vent to unseat, but it did. I then pulled a vacuum on it. It took a lot less effort for that to get the valve to unseat. I think the vent is like the cap on a radiator. It takes a certain amount of pressure to unseat it. It may seem like a lot of pressure is building up in you tank but probably not enough to unseat the relief valve. I do not have any kind of hose on mine.

FWIW the vent on Tina requires no pressure to work.

Yea, it's probably working correctly. It was warm in the sun the last couple days, so I probably just noticed it because of the warm days. Today it's cloudy and cool (what happened to the sun???), but no hissing today.

I think it got in there when I had the tank off doing head work.

I did some more reading and thought about it some more (Yeah I know, thinking is a dangerous thing). You want the tank to let air in easily to replace the gas you're burning off, otherwise you'll create a vacuum and starve the engine of gas. You do not want the tank to release air easily because you will be releasing a gas/air mixture that, sure as the day is long, will find an ignition source. That could get ugly. I went for a short ride today and then stopped and got gas. Sure enough, it had built up some pressure. I know what you mean on how it really vents off on a hot day with the bike in the sun. I've gotten in the habit of venting my tank before I ride if it's been sitting in the sun.

Yeah, it's been cloudy off and on today. Mostly high clouds. Hope it's as nice tomorrow as they're forecasting, 'cause a buddy and I are going riding. It shouldn't be as crowded in the Daytona area on a Tuesday as it will be this weekend, because it's suppose to be sunny and around 80 Saturday.

I've had issues with mine pissing fuel out the cap. I've also been having my caps coming unscrewed. I'm about to the point of buying a new set due to always having to monitor them. I've lost the left side before. It sucks.

I have a 1988 FLHTC and it builds up pressure also. I don't worry about it. I have pulled the tank and everything is as it should be. You'll notice that there is what appears to be a vent tube at the back of the tank under the seat area. Mine appears to be soldered and pained over at the factory. It doesn't affect performance in any way except one thing: trying to squeeze a few extra drops of gas into the tank on a hot day and then storing it in the garage will mean it runs over and stains my tank. Other than that I haven't seen any negative impact.

Thanks. I've wondered about that little tube under the seat. When I fill up I try to burn a little off before I park it. I've never had an overflow problem. It runs great so I'll just not worry about it, or I can burp it if it bothers me!
