I've noticed the last few times I park after riding, my yank is building with pressure, I have to pop the cap to relieve it. Is it just a simple wire poke to fix that? Makes me wonder why it's plugged. Since I had to seal the tank due to excessive rust when I first got the bike, I'm wondering if my sealer is degrading and floating loose. Sad thought, but like I was told, it's just a matter of time before it.........
Hmm, good question. I think it is a vented cap, at least it looks just like the vented caps for cars I've always seen. Maybe I just need a new cap if I can find one.
Did you seal it with that cap on? If so you sealed the vent.
No, I didn't, but that was a long time ago and I would have noticed. I just looked at the cap, and it looks fine. The little spring loaded vent pushes in and springs back out. I can't imagine what I never noticed it before, but maybe it's been hissing forever. I was just wondering about that little hose fixture that sticks out of the tank there. Never new what it was for. Maybe I'm just looking for a reason to complain.
Since you live in Florida, I'm not sure if this applies. But I had a similar problem with my Heritage that I purchased in Calif. Ended up the charcoal canister that the tank vents to was plugged. I just disconnected the vent tube from the canister and let it hang open. Problem solved.

No cannister on this old boat, must have been a California thing you had. Thanks.
Dealership has vented caps about $13. My tank has an air tube that out from under the tank at the front of tank by steering neck, try blowing thru it both directions.?

If the sealer is degrading and loose I would think the motor would stalling or sputtering too.
