The bolts that hold it together would expand with heat also, so I say its a myth.....
The bolts are steel, the jugs and heads are aluminum, which has a greater rate of expansion.
But I don`t think you will blow a gasket by riding without warming up the engine.
I think the myth was started by dealers to put the blame for leaking base gaskets on the owner instead of blaming the real culprit...shitty base gaskets and poor machining.
