I will take the advise of my eng. builder on my new motor . Took it to his shop Sunday to do the first fire up did 2 heat cycles letting head get to 195* both times then shut it down and let cool to below 100* . Then set it up on the dyno and ran it up into 5th gear and checked the air/fuel ratio at 60mph never going over 2800rpm . I was told to break it in this way for 500 mi. not so important to stay under 2800 rpm just don't push it and don't lug it . After 500 mi. will do a full tune on the laptop a full dyno runs @ 5500 rpm and then i can ride like i stole it .

The "science" behind heat cycles actually defies science.....I'll say no more....

Default thank you

Thank you all for your replies! It's crazy how many different ideas/ways to do this! The local builder (he does HD, imports, and drag bikes) puts them together, runs a couple heat cycles, and rapes the miss out of them on the dyno. He does it different if he broke open the bottom end too. Any other ideas??

Far better to take one man's recommendation than ask for many.....

I always just break it in the way I ride normally. Never had an issue
