As far as grounding, the regulator most likely is grounded through it's housing like the shovels and twin cams. Point is, he asked if any harm can come from using it? Most likely not if it is a good regulator. If it is undersized, it will run hot and it will burn up it it tries to pass too much current, if oversized, no worries.

I personally would not run anyone's used regulator.

If the OP does not want to repair the pin on his regulator, I would cut off the plug on the one his buddy sold him, cut off his connector and solder/heat shrink the new one on his current regulator.....but that's just me.
me too!

Thank you very much for answering my question. I decided to go against advice and install the new regulator and tested everything. took it for a ride and tested everything again. vr a little warm but I could still place my hand directly on the unit with no discomfort.
The old regulator would have had to have the whole stator plug spliced. The insulation was all cracked and rotted out, one pin was only partially intact, completely ruined. I do notice one thing, my lights don't brighten when i throttle past idle and then dim again back at idle. charging system has all of the right numbers on the voltometer. Again thanks for the help, and thank you, Craig.
