I don't know about "digital", but I've installed DYNA brand ignitions several times and they are very easy, you do need to buy a point conversion kit to do it though, because they use the weight plates and points bolts when you install them.

I've had excellent results with them and never had an issue. You can use their coil or buy one that uses your stock coil too.

IMHO, the Dyna 2ki kit is none better. Wont find it any cheaper.

I believe electronic was the wording I should have used. I just want reliability..... Not performance yet, that'll come later

The Dyna S ignition has always been reliable for me, but some people don't like the centrifugal weight advance system. It's a great system in my opinion, but probably not what people would consider a "high performance" ignition, because in a very high R.P.M. environment the weights tend to fluctuate and vary your timing. They work great for a daily rider street bike though. I've used this kit on two shovelheads, a sportster, a Fat Boy and my last ride a 1994 Dyna Lowrider.

The parts are available from Jireh Cycles and they normally have the best prices.

If you go with the Dyna 2000I or the Ultima, which is the exact same as the 2000I, but cheaper (Dyna makes them both), you do not need a timing light. It is static timed off of your timing mark on your flywheel (TDC).

If you go with the Dyna-S, you can time it off of the flywheel as well (advance mark, rotate the plate until you get a spark.)

A timing light (especially a digital dial-back one) let's you easily verify the time at idle and full advance). But is not necessary

I had the Dyna-S, works good, I now use the Vulcan, works good. The only disadvantage is the mechanical advance mechanism. I did put in a Rivera Pro Advance Mechanism to get my curve to 2000 RPM at full advance instead of the 1500 of the stock one. The mechanical advance is a maintenance item that most people fail to do.

I would go with the Ultima electronic ignition. There are complete kits with new coils and module for a very good price on ebay. They support a VOES as well as several advance curves.

I was looking at the ultima..... Had one on my flyrite bobber years ago. It was reliable, and easy to adjust..... Didn't like the heat created by the Andrews can after install so the Indy put in a Daytona dyna-tec.....

I just sold my timing light on C-list prior to buying this bike (damn it all)..... I think I'll order an ultima get up..... I'm certain it's not rocket surgery, and I've done some static timing research..... I think I can do this!

I have an Ultima and could not be happier with it. Its a re-badged Dyna 2kp. Notes are:
- DO NOT use their coils though as they are total rubbish and will chit itself within 12 months (I run a pair of DynaS units and they are brilliant)
- Get the programming cable for them as its handy to be able to program the uinit up from a laptop - i bought a $20 thinkpad on ebay for the job. The software is free on the Dyna website.

Out of curiosity, anyone willing to recommend crane? Or is the product not worth the price. Mine was already upgraded to that when i got it, and i just found the crane is quite a bit more expensive than the recs on here. I'm always for cheapest with best reliability, and given my happiness with the crane i was going to have my brother put that in his bike, but if the dyna or ultima are cheaper and just as good, then i'll hook him up with that.
