Default Primary Oil plug

I changed my transmission and primary drive oils today for the first time on my 97 Road King, and I think all went well. I'm curious about the oil plug for the primary drive. It seems to be more or less like a set screw. How does this stay in place if it doesn't have something to butt up against, or do I not have the right plug? The Haynes manual doesn't say anything about using locktight. I didn't want to over tighten (bad habit of mine) and I'm a little afraid it will vibrate loose.

Teflon tape or teflon thread sealant.

It's 1/8-27 pipe thread. The taper is what tightens up.

I use the pipe thread paste and just screw it in almost flush.

If you don't use something on it then the plug will leak.

Screwing it too far in will mushroom that hole and eventually split that hole, be careful.

Go to industrial supply house and purchase the Heavy duty teflon tape. Two wraps and it cured a two year leak for me.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll be changing the oil again so I can get the Teflon tape on the plug.
