Default Regulator Failure = Fried Everything!

Man, when my regulator failed yesterday it fried several components. So far what I've found is that it allowed over-charging and swelled the 2 month old battery like a balloon. So aside from needing a new regulator & battery, it cooked the ignition sensor plate & ignition module Not sure yet if the coil needs to be replaced. It also blew the headlight, taillight & all signal bulbs. Sure glad I didn't install an LED headlight yet. I think it toasted the signal flasher too. That was an expensive mishap.

My question is, being that I need to replace all these parts, I'd like to do so with better quality, higher performance parts.

Can anybody offer any brand suggestions of the various parts?

Thanks

Rich,
Me and a few friends have purchased batteries from this batteries plus franchises that are seemingly all over the place. 2 year no b.s. warranty that is a replacement. Higher cca and les money than a moco battery made me a satisfied buyer.

Last time I saw this it wasn't the reg that caused it, it was the positive battery cable chafed through on the oil tank and then everything except the stator blew...lights, indicators, module, flasher unit, tacho...the works!

I would check your battery cables before putting any new parts on there.

Thanks Spanners, I'll do that. That was actually the first thing I suspected, especially being that the positive cable is so close to the tank & frame. But I couldn't find any chafing or electrical arcing marks. I'll certainly take a closer look at that possibility though.

Thanks again Spanners, I'm able to get a good clear view of the positive battery cable all the way to the starter. Both battery cables are clean and in great condition with no chafing or dry-rot cracks in the shielding. I also looked thoroughly again for any burn marks from possible arcing. Everything looks fine, I haven't found any issues.

Yeah it does bud, but it can always be worse. It cuts into the funds for performance mods, but it's just all in the cost of riding.

.

Then you are good to go. My son's BMW F650 blew the reg and it puffed the battery big time and at 20v charging it interferes with the ECU and causes a misfire on the BMW.
