Default intermitten starting issue....

Hey all I have an occasional starting problem. What I have done:

New outer ring gear assembly ( it was cracked)

Dreaded click modification, known good battery

What my 1986 flhtc does is if I make a short hop to the store ( after warmed up) is if I try to start it, it sounds like the starter is not kicking out I was hoping the ring gear assembly being cracked was the issue. It had to be repaired anyway. If she is warm, sitting in the sun ect. Or a nice ride it starts ok.

What should I look at next?

What do you mean by not kicking out?

Does the starter sound like it is spinning, but the engine is not cranking?

If so, suspect the starter drive unit.

Starter relay is probably going. Replace it, 10.00. If that does it, then get a starter solenoid push button.

`86 is a different starter configuration than modern (`89 and later) systems. No push button band-aid for this.

We need a more accurate description of the problem.
