Electric Start Turning over but not holding- Not sure if thestarter drive is slipping or the solenoid is letting go.
Any symptoms that might help narrow it down?
Thanks
If the starter is turning the engine over but fails to stay engaged it may be the solenoid. But then again, if the starter is working then the solenoid is working too because it is that which engages the motor.
Go over your wiring closely that is associated with the starting circuit, beginning with the battery cables. Make sure the connections are clean and tight. If there is any resistance in the circuit then that will cause the circuit to fail to carry the current needed to run that starter motor.......pg
Thanks for the response,
The starter will keep turning if I continue to hold the button....it is the starter motor spinning without the loadfrom the ring gear when it pops out or fails to hold....is it possible for the bendix starter drive to slip with the pinion gear and ring gear still meshed? or is the pinion gear disengaging from the ring gear as a result of the solenoid (new) letting go?
Thanks
sounds like what my bike was doing,I replaced the starter pinion clutch gear and it turns over great now.not to hard a fix either.I had new solinoid and relay on the bike so it was the only outer thing it could be.if the starter starts to spin the engine then spins out, that would be what I would replace.
