I'm kind of a stickler for having everything working. I do like the idea of an oil temp gauge instead. Is there one that looks like the stock gauges?
I wanted to do this also and tried on my 98 FLHTC but could only find a gauge that matched my bike for a 99 and up. Found out that it wouldn't work because the sensor had to thread into plug #3 (see thumbnail), and on my bike there is an oil line running into the pan there. I had to take it back to the dealer.

A brass tee with a 45 degree angle wouldn't have solved that? $4 in parts from home cheapo.

I thought about that also but would have had to also find a female end to thread the sensor into making it a long and dangerous extension. A very easy way lose oil without me knowing about it until it's to late.
Maybe I'm wrong and they have tee's that have a 2 male's and female on the third side.
I will check it out at Home Depot, because I really would like to do this if they have a tee that would work.

I have much better luck with those oil line fittings from an auto parts store. Better equipped stores will have a Dorman bureau with drawers of different fittings.
I have used the nylon oil lines and brass fittings for years in an automotive application for years and years with no problems.
BTW I'm like you, I like everything to work on my vehicles.
