Starter removal 1995 Electra Glide
I posted a while back about my whirling noise when starting the bike and was told the starter clutch/bendix was the issue. Well it is getting worse and the ole gal almost left me stranded. Got home and pulled the manual for instructions, thought I could just unbolt it and slide it out, but the manual says to remove the primary. Is this correct? thanks

Unfortunately yes. You have to take the screw out of the jackshaft. Make sure to replace the washer with the locking tab on the jackshaft when you put it back together if it is at all questionable.

I did this on a reduction geared sportster, looks like the same starter, I'm pretty sure it is. The installation looks like it's the same for a sporty. It's not a hard job at all. You may need one of those ball end allen wrenches to get to the bolts on the inside of the primary.
