My starter just whines over very fast but doesn't engage the starter ring . I've been told it is probably my starter drive or starter drive clutch . Which I believe is the same thing . Can anyone offer any advice before I go ahead and order this part . I think I'm going to try the repair myself .
Yup the starter clutch, replaced mine last year, was doing the same, just spinning and not engaging, started at first by doing it occasionaly but then would take 2-3 tries and it would engage, decided to replace before i got stuck on the side of the road
buy the allballs starter clutch and it will last a long time, not a huge job for sure, took my time with breaks and it was done in 2 hours, remove primary cover , unscrew the small screw on the end of starter gear , and be carefull not to overtighting when re-installing as they can break easily, it is a small head screw but fairly long when you pull it out
