Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. 1990 FLHS here, owned from new, though far from stock now. Both front and rear air systems are easy to fix, just give us some more details on which end is giving problems. I got round my shifter problems by replacing the long rod, which came with new links at both ends. The gear lever itself has replaceable bushes.
Just make sure your fluids are fresh, tires have tread and not old, fasteners are fastened, condition/tension of primary chain and drive belt, etc...
I know you said it had regular services, but it never hurts to double check, it can to not do so.
In the near future you may want to consider replacing the lifters as a preventative measure, read up on it and decide for yourself.
Of course while your there would be a good time for a cam upgrade, and while your doing that might as well inspect/replace cam bearing (although yours has the good roller bearing), and of course, if your that far in, go ahead and replace the top end gaskets with quality ones.
Then after your done with all that you will want a good tuneable carb upgrade, and since you've gone this far you might as well upgrade the ignition to get the most out of all your efforts.
Surely at some point in this process you have tossed those anemic drag pipes, and installed a good torque-building 2-1 exhaust system.
Now, after you are broke and in desperate need of cash, I would be willing to give you what you paid for it, just to help you out.
Enjoy that EVO, and ride safe!
LOL, I have gone that route before with both of my bikes. Straightening them out can cost a few bucks, buts thats how I learned about how they work. The primary drain I have found. The transmission drain I think is the large hex head in the center of the bottom of the cases close to the oil filter and ground strap. I still havent found the engine oil drain hose. I have the factory service and parts manual but the simple services arent covered in the manual. Could you explain how to find the oil drain hose and verify if i am on track with the tranny drain as you own the same generation Evo? (87-90)
