Brembo rotors are indeed a little larger than the previous variety. Being metric they are 300mm, which is approximately 11.8".

Greg, I agree about the factory look being preferable, but as you say! Busy looking at US Ebay at present, where most of my good ideas find material form......

Are the factory lowers from 00-08 all the same/interchangeable for different models?

For instance are softail lowers the same as EG lowers?

Thanks

You can investigate things like that by using any of the on-line parts websites, like this one. That is how I found that '09 Touring bikes with Brembos use the same sliders as the previous '00-on bikes.

Bought an 06 brake setup, and looking at some lower legs of the same vintage for my 97.

What dia. axle will I need for the lower legs?

That be 1" or the metric size?

Thanks

'00-'13 are the same, for the lowers.. The wheel, or actually the bearing is what decides the axle.. 1" is the preferred size though, better bearings..

I'll be using a 97 wheel, 3/4".

I just need to know what dia axle the newer lower legs receive , as I'll have the axle turned down for the 97 wheel.

John, the 'diameter' of the axle is dictated by the bearing size. So your bike with 3/4" ID tapered roller wheel bearings uses an axle of that OD size, however that is only the diameter where it passes through the wheel. One end is larger than that, the other is smaller.

Later bikes have either 1" bearings or 25mm ones, but the two axles of those sizes will both fit the later sliders, because the 'big' and 'small' ends of those axles are the same sizes. I suspect the 'small' end is the same for your earlier bike as well. What we need is someone to tell us if the 'big' end is the same size as later axles.

In any event either a 1" or 25mm axle will have enough meat on it for you to make any alterations to it, so it fits your 3/4" wheel.

I've recently seen '07 VRod Brembos on Ebay, so they certainly predate the Touring models.
