Default cruise control quit working

After installing handlebars on a 1994 FLHTCU, the cruise does not work. I have adjusted the throttle cables, made sure there is slack in the cruise cable, checked fuses, triple checked all connections. It happened one time before when installing different handgrips, but adjusting the throttle with a bit of slack fixed it. It worked before, so it has to be something simple. What am I missing?

IIRC, there is a whole 'pre-flight' checklist that I had to go through after installing the cruise control kit on my FLHS. Might help diagnose it.

I'll do some searching and see if there is a link anywhere.

Edit: Here's a link to the install PDF: http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J00599.pdf

The procedure to run the switch diagnostic sequence should be in the FSM.

That helps, I didn't see the roll off switch. Will pull the tank tomorrow and check that. Thanks

Shouldn't need to pull the tank, just turn the bars to the left. It should be right there on the neck..

Roll off switch is an integral part of the idle cable, and it's up under the tank about half way along the right side along with the throttle cable. You can possibly see it but it is best to pull the tank to check and see if it is disengaging.

It really is a simpleton design: a couple washers with electrical spades on them, separated with a rubber bushing. The cruise control harness plugs into those spades. Roll the throttle off, it compresses the bushing and the two washers make contact, disengaging the cruise.

One of the biggies is to make certain you have enough 'play' in the cables so that when riding and your hand is on the throttle grip, the vibrations don't cause you to twist the grip far enough to disengage the cruise.
