Default cruise control problem

Hi all,
My '00 RG cruise control stopped working. A friend of mine suggested looking at the throttle roll off switch. I replaced the intake seals on the throttle body, but did not notice that switch. Anyone know where exactly it is??

Mine's located in the cable routed along the frame just before it disappears under the tank.

I can't remember on mine since it's been a while since I looked at it, but have you checked all your fuses? You didn't mention if the cruise has power or not. I'm sure the unit must be connected via a fuse somewhere in the system.

I checked the fuse, it's ok. Fuse box is located on the left side under the cruise module. The light comes on the on/off switch. Today the C light came on in the tach for about 5 secs. and then it went out. That's what is making me think it has a loose connection somewhere.

Could be that it's just not engaging properly. There is a throttle adjustment that the cruise can make to take up slack in the cable. I'd look in your service manual and try that before tearing into it.

If you were doing a throttle cable adjustment it is possible that you may need to do an initialization .
The engine should be at normal operating temperature and throttle and idle cables should be correctly adjusted. To set the correct cable lash proceed as follows:
1. Push the Cruise Switch on the right handlebar to RESUME and hold it.
2. Turn the Cruise ON/OFF switch to ON.
3. Turn the Ignition switch to IGNITION.
4. Start the engine. The green Cruise Enabled/Engaged lamp in the speedometer will illuminate.
Wait 3 Seconds for the lamp to go off.
5. Release the Cruise Switch from the RESUME position
6. Push the Cruise switch to RESUME and hold. Cruise will pull in cable until change in RPM is detected. The number of motor steps required to rev the engine is stored in memory.
7. After engine revs and Cruise Enabled/Engaged lamp is extinguished release the Cruise Switch from the RESUME position.
8 Turn the ignition switch to off

I tried the cable lash adjustment according to the manual. The cruise worked one time. I had to put on the brake and when I put the cruise on again, it just flashed on and that was all she wrote. Wouldn't work after that. I'll try the adjustment again. Never know.

The roll off switch is located in the middle of the idle control cable. It's basically two metal rings with a bit of foam cushion between them. When you roll off hard, the idle control cable gets stretched, and the cable sheath gets compressed, squeezing the two metal rings together closing the circuit and tripping off the cruise. It's possible your
cables are too tight holding the switch closed. Turn the handlebars fully to the right and open the throttle fully, and let go.. If it doesn't snap back instantaneously, then the
cables are too tight.
Another possibility is a sticking front brake master cylinder allowing the brake light to flicker (and trip the cruise) or the tip of the brake light switch is broken off.

Wanted to let you all know that it was the throttle roll off switch. When I put the tank on, I must have caught the switch wires and knocked one of the wires off. Put the wire back on and it works great. Boy, do I feel like an idiot. Lesson learned!!!!!!!
