FXRS first impressions
Day after it arrived. Managed to put 100 miles or so on it yesterday.
- Wants you to warm it up. My last bike was a Suzuki DL1000. Thumb the starter and off you go. The FXR needs to be coaxed to life.
- Torque city. The DL1000 (90 degree L-Twin engine) was a monster, but you had to zing it up to get to the good stuff. The FXR is right there at the bottom end. Much better for in town bumping around.
- FXR transmission shifts way better than the DL. No comparison.
- Handling on the FXR is truly amazing. The only FXR I've ridden before was a friends highly-modified chopper. That thing was squirrely as hell. My stocker is a total "goes where you think" machine. Nice.
- Brakes are going to need some work. I'm guessing its still got the factory pads, and there's not a lot of stop in them. They are good enough for now, but I'm thinking I'll make a winter project of new pads and lines.
- At highway speeds, it gets a little jiggy. Feels like my old SV-650. I think its about the upright riding position and no fairing.
- I'm amazed at how smooth it runs. Its a paint shaker at idle, but when you get it up to speed, its virtually vibration free. There was always a little vibration that came through the bars on my DL1000 that aggravated the carpel tunnel in my right wrist. The FXR is way, way better.
- The turn signals on the FXR are dumb (see other thread).
All things considered, its a winner. I couldn't be more pleased.

Probably the stock Dunlops if that's what are on it. IMHO The MoCo made a huge step backwards when they decided to stop producing the FXR frame.
Loving my FXR LR. Even in its hobbled lowered stance it is a joy to ride. At 80mph a Baker 6spd might be nice, but otherwise I love the 5 spd. Just a solid machine.
My dread is that it is now the only Harley I truly love and there won't be any more of them made. Makes me want to buy a second one just in case....
