I´m trying to replace my sprocket seal. Got the primary chain of the sprocket, but my stator cover is'nt able to slide past the inner primary cover. It's too tight.
Then I tried to take the clutch off, and remove the inner cover and everything. But the clutch drum is stuck, and I don't have the puller tool.
So went online to check for tips, and everyone just says to leave the clutch alone. So SHOULD I be able to remove the stator cover withouth tearing everything apart? Should I just wiggle the cover until it gets off (taking care not to damage the threads on the sprocket, of course).
On my 98 it's held by the magnets, need to use something to put in the holes and pull it past the magnets, coat hanger if it's strong enough. I used two small screw drivers at angles.
Can you post a picture? My inner would come off without touching the stator at all.

I think you are talking about a rotor when you say stater cover and as mentioned before it is held in with magnets.
There are 2 holes in it and if they are threaded you can put 2 bolts in the rotor and use vice grips on the bolts to pull it off the stater.
The small holes in my rotor weren't tapped, and removing it was a job, because the magnets don't want to let go of the stator. I stuck a couple of screwdrivers in the holes. tipped them at an angle, and pulled. Eventually I got it off.
While it was off, I should have run a tap through the two small holes so that next time I could thread a bolt into each hole, grip the bolt heads with pliers and pull it off that way.
I have no problem getting the cover loose from the magnets, weirdly enough. Just using som stiff wires. But I can't get it past the inner primary case edge.

Pictures? My inner doesn't change clearance and if my cover fits in there it doesn't change as it slides off the shaft it has the same clearance all the way until it's in my hand off the bike.
Is your inner "stepped down" from the inner edge to the outer edge?
Just asking since it is an 89 and the older shovels required you to pull the inner to get the rotor off of the shaft due to the step. They changed it later on, but not sure when and since it is a softail, it could be more shovel related in that area.
I remember reading/seeing ( I think ) a thread on using a Dremel tool to remove enough material from the inner primary so that it offered enough clearance ... Somebody remember this? My memory ain't what it use to be.
On a 5 speed (FLT, FLHT), "they say" you can dremmel off a little of the inner primary and get the rotor off. On 4 speed (FLH) and I'm going to guess the soft tails, which are basically the same design, you'll have to pull the inner primary.
Get the right puller tool for the clutch hub. They are getting harder to replace, I hear. If the clutch is like mine, a puller for a 4 speed will work if you drill an extra hole. They probably all come with the extra hole these days, but if you get one and it's missing a hole to make it work, drill one.
