I guess you never know. I have one now that has lasted 24 years. First battery lasted 10 years, second battery 10 years, on the third now 4 years.

2005, almost 55,000 miles on.
Both voltage regulator and stator have not been replaced.
Its been throwing the p0563 code and runnin weird as of late.

Example at 30mph I'll let off the throttle and it stays at 30 as if it's on cruise control. Clutch and boom rpm drop

In any event, I'm dropping it off at my guys shop Friday to get it all checked out 🙌🙏🙏🤣

My 76 shovel had 186k on it when I stroked it in 2005 and was on the same stator since I got it in 1978. Several regulators, but same stator. Still works too, although it is not in there any longer. I still just run the 17.6 amp in the shovel as that's all it needs.

I splice my older stator connections and run leads outside of the cases and silicone them up inside and out. Never a loose connection and they work way better for me like this. Swapping a reg is just cut and add connector to ends and connect it..

Griz
i did the same on my shovel. that plug can be a problem

The "Million Mile Harley" got through 23 stators in a million miles....so there is your answer....43,478 miles on average.

I bought a pristine 1995 Road King last year, with 9,000 miles, that had been sitting up for maybe 15 years. Got cranked I think periodically, but not much.

I bought it, and stator either failed then, or was already kaput. Sold the bike to a good friend for what I had in it, and he replaced the stator last summer with the HD OE part.

Failed again this summer 5,000 miles later.

Did he put a new HD OEM regulator in at the same time? If not, that could have been the problem, otherwise he has an intermittent short in the electrical system somewhere.

I don’t know if he did the first time he replaced the stator last summer, although I included a NIB OE regulator with the bike when he bought it. I’m pretty sure he has it on now with the second stator.
