What a difference a few little adjustments can make!
Wow...that's all I can say. I thought this bike was pretty quick before but she runs like a scalded dog now! I have a '97 R.K. that has supposedly been stroked out to a 93 cu in with a bunch of mods and upgrades. The bike has been running rough lately and there's an old timer here in town that said he could really hear it...told me to bring it over and let him check some stuff out...so I did.
It turns out that the PO had the Crane Fireball Hi-4E Ignition Module set in "Race Mode" and had the advance timing one click from being maxed out. We changed the race mode back to OEM/Stock and turned back the timing advance quite a bit. Then we increased the fuel flow with the accelerator pump adjustment on the the Mikuni Carb and I cannot believe what a difference those small adjustments made! This bike is quick...for a Harley! It seems like I'm hitting 90 mph in no time flat. It's even doing better at higher speeds. I'm getting from 90-110 mph a lot quicker than it was before. I truly wish I had 1/10th the knowledge this old timer has in his head. With my limited knowledge, I'm almost too afraid to start playing with all these adjustments...what I would give to have this guy's knowledge and ears.
