Yes, that was the only place I knew of to find one. I think I paid $20 or $25 with shipping. The glass lens was broken but the LCD screen was clean. Works great. It is nice being able to read the trip odometer and the odometer itself now.
Thanks for the help.

crashone, when you replaced the lcd from another speedo into your speedo did it still read the original mileage?

This is a thread from 2014.
Crash is still around but you might have better luck getting an answer with a PM (private message).

Click on his name at the top of his post and it will give you that option.

Hey WP50, Ramblnman won't be able to PM Crashone. He's to new to the forum, I PM'd crashone to notify him about the question. I am curious as well. I replaced my speedo with a Dakota digital and was wondering about the odometer reading myself...

yes i went to pm him then realized im too new so i posted instead... my recently purchased ride 98 lowrider's odometer is just all fragmented and unreadable so i may just replace the lcd if i can find a cheap speedo from that era (which is turning out to be quite the search as im finding out) now a few people have mentioned in a few searches i found you can go with a newer speedo but you need a harness kit, it would be nice to know exactly which speedo and harness kit as you could quickly exhaust hard earned cash real quick on the wrong parts.

In 1998 the mileage was recorded in the speedometer unit.
To be more specific the miles ridden was stored internally in the speedometer itself and not the ECM.
A change of LCD screen would not alter mileage and it would just display the mileage stored in the speedometer it is attached.
The LCD is just a display.
Take note that newer bikes record the miles ridden in the ECM bike computer.

Ramblnman, Dakota digital makes a nice replacement. with minimal wiring. It's an MVX-2002. has a lot of options and works great. I found mine for $319.

Hello. I got your PM 98HotRodFatBoy and responded. Yes to the question the original mileage is there and I see im has answered as well. I could not remember what year they changed to the ECM storing the mileage. The instructions im posted work perfect. Like I said the back of my chrome bezel ring doesn't look that great now but I can't see it. Take your time and don't rush anything. Check ebay and maybe some local indy shops for a donor speedometer. When you go to remove the LCD screen, start with the bad one so you will see how it all comes apart first, then do the deal on the donor.

thank you all for responding so quickly... when this first happened to my odometer i googled for the cure and found this thread had the most info about my problem so i am greatful to those that started and kept sharing on this issue. 98hotrodfatboy thanks for the lead on the dakota digital speedo, but isnt your speedo 5"? i have the smaller 3 3/4"speedo and tach setup on my tank..now someone floated the thought that the sportster speedo from that era would work on my bike ,a few days ago i called harley customer services and spoke to them but all they ended up telling me they checked the national dealer inventory stock and there was nothing available in the country..and that it was obsolete, i then floated the question about a newer style dyna lowrider speedo and updated harness that would work on my bike and she would not talk about that with me! it made me a little pissed i then proceeded to tell her how i and most likely thousands of owners felt about how we have no options available to us from the manafacturer to keep track of service intervals because of this problem but it did not even phaze her! you would think that the technicians at harley would have come out with a harness kit to make our lives easier to update to the newer speedo's
