success! took me 4 hours start to finish, the small 3 3/4" guages suck to deal with when you have big paw, low patience threshhold! i had to keep reminding myself what crashone told me... "Just take your time and go easy. Don't fat finger it".

Good for you! Yep I'll fat finger something in a heartbeat if I'm not careful. Or get frustrated/ pissed with it.
Any way mine is still doing well.

Default LCD part number?

Other than that I'm real happy! Took it out for a ride and all is working fine. In the shop the display looked brighter so I'll have to check it out later tonight.

Thanks again im!
Hey...did you by chance get a part number or something off the LCD when you had it out? I figured I may be able to order it direct from a electronic supply company.

Thanks

I'm not sure if there was one, that's been awhile. I think someone found a source for these screens and posted recently.
I'll see if I can locate any pictures from then, that might take a bit. If I'm lucky I may have caught a part number.

Default LCD chip

I have read somewere on this excellent forum that at least model year 1998 had their Odometer LCD chip supplied by a different supplier than ’99 and onwards.

If I understod the thread right these LCD Displays are not possible to buy as spareparts or from a Hardware store selling electronics or from HD.

Ok well shoot, mine is a '97. Usually somebody big like digikey sells a surplus of the hard to find components in electronics

Thanks

Keep checking eBay and local Indy shops for one. It was a little time consuming but very doable to change out the screen. You might even find one at an Indy off of a trashed bike you can pull apart and look for part number/ manufacturer
